Never accept received wisdom about workplace design

It’s always worthwhile challenging stereotypes and assumptions. This thought sprang immediately to mind when the first images emerged of the new Facebook offices in California (above). At the heart of the new and enormous campus building is the world’s largest open plan, a model of office design that we are told is outdated. Yet, here it is at the heart of one of the world’s most successful technology companies championed by both Mark Zuckerberg and Frank Gehry. And the reason why is because it works. We now have more choices than ever before about how to design offices so it’s important we keep an open mind about what works best. This is just as true when it comes to workplace design for the world’s largest contact centre business as it is for one of the pioneers of social media, as we see in this latest edition of our newsletter.
